Another record breaking
Crufts took place at the
NEC Birmingham with a
gate increase on last year
that meant 166,000 people
attended the world’s most
famous dog show and saw
a whippet called Tease top
the huge entry.
The attendance figure this
year was up from 162,065
last year (3% up on previ-
ous year) and another re-
cord gate showed the ever
growing popularity of an
event involving man’s best
friend. After four packed
days, a new Crufts Best
in Show winner was been
crowned as Ch Collooney
Tartan Tease, a Whippet
bitch took home the cov-
eted title.
In a packed arena,
Tease, who is two and a
half years old and owner
Yvette Short from Edin-
burgh, were cheered on as
they were chosen by well
known judge, Jill Peak who
had in fact just returned
from judging in Mexico a
few days earlier. The his-
toric moment was captured
live on Channel 4 and
watched online around the
world by millions. The only
down side of live TV was
that it attracted protes-
tors yet again as the finale
was dogged by two animal
rights people who tried to
make a point before being CRUFTS’ RECORD BREAKING

posse of security guards. One feature of the big shows nowadays is the at-
tention correctly given to the future of our sport. In
